O bibliotecário escolar é um professor num espaço de ensino informal :

 

“O bibliotecário escolar é um professor num espaço de ensino informal”, faço esta afirmação para evidenciar o papel fundamental que um bibliotecário pode e deve ter no espaço escolar.

Considero a biblioteca como um espaço informal porque este é um local ao qual só se deslocam uma percentagem de alunos inscritos na escola e, na maioria dos casos, essa deslocação é voluntária.

Contudo, esta mobilização dos alunos é muito importante porque, diariamente, eles são incentivados a cumprir um conjunto de normas que permitirão uma maior integração social no presente e no futuro.

Aos alunos que frequentam a biblioteca escolar não é dada uma avaliação que figure nas pautas e que contribua para a avaliação curricular. A única avaliação a que estão sujeitos é quanto ao cumprimento das regras mínimas de boa educação.

A biblioteca escolar é o palco privilegiado para uma aculturação de valores sociais e um primeiro contacto com uma biblioteca, para que se consigam integrar mais facilmente nas outras bibliotecas de que vão necessitar no seu percurso de aprendizagem ao longo da vida.

Para além de uma consciencialização das normas sociais, os nossos alunos procuram as bibliotecas escolares como espaços de aprendizagem e de lazer. Cabe-nos a nós, bibliotecários, facultar os meios e os serviços que colmatem as suas necessidades, nomeadamente, prestando apoio na realização dos seus trabalhos escolares, nas suas pesquisas, nos meios existentes em livre acesso e nos recursos disponíveis na Internet.

Desde que sejam credíveis, todas as tipologias de documentos podem e devem ser utilizadas, independentemente do suporte em que se apresentem.

O profissional das Ciências da Documentação e da Informação, ou seja o bibliotecário, desempenha o papel de intermediário da informação, pois possui conhecimentos que permitem filtrar e legitimar essa mesma informação, que vai responder à necessidade de um determinado utilizador ou de um conjunto de utilizadores.

Assim, é cada vez mais importante o papel desempenhado por este género de profissionais pois, segundo alguns estudiosos afirmam, vivemos hoje numa sociedade cognitiva. O conhecimento é produzido mediante um acesso facilitado da informação.

A sociedade transformou-se. E com ela tudo mudou, nomeadamente as bibliotecas, estas eram, outrora, espaços fechados guardados a sete chaves por uma velha bibliotecária de óculos de tartaruga e carrapito, ou uma figura masculina com características semelhantes de austeridade. Actualmente são espaços privilegiados de convívio e inserção social.

Refiro-me aqui às bibliotecas que existem fisicamente, num dado local, tais como, as bibliotecas públicas e as escolares, entre outras. Há bibliotecas que se destinam mais a uma maior difusão da informação e menos a uma vertente física, sendo este o caso das bibliotecas digitais, acessíveis a partir de qualquer ponto do globo. (Neste artigo não me vou debruçar sobre este tema fica aqui o mote lançado para um futuro post).

Retomando o tema das bibliotecas escolares estas, tais como todas as outras, têm que se adaptar aos públicos que servem.

A minha experiência profissional incide sobre os alunos do 3º ciclo do ensino básico e secundário, ou seja, do 7º aos 12º anos de escolaridade. São jovens adultos ou adolescentes cujas idades vão, grosso modo, dos 12 até aos 21 anos de idade. Estas faixas etárias têm despertado menos interesse dos projectos lançados e dos estudos desenvolvidos, uma vez que estes têm privilegiado sobretudo as crianças do 1º ciclo do ensino básico. Mas tenho a sensação que este cenário poderá estar a mudar.

Em suma, retomo agora o tema lançado no título deste artigo: o bibliotecário escolar é um professor num espaço de ensino informal, na medida em que este deve fazer um acompanhamento dos trabalhos e estudos desenvolvidos pelos alunos de todos os graus de ensino, detendo assim um papel activo no processo educativo das escolas. No entanto, no quadro actual das escolas públicas, em Portugal, não está prevista a categoria de técnico superior bibliotecário, havendo apenas lugar ao professor coordenador da biblioteca, o que não é a mesma coisa. Assim, encontram-se em bibliotecas escolares, bibliotecários que não têm visto reconhecida a sua formação e que, por isso, se encontram integradas em carreiras e categorias administrativas.

"The school librarian is a teacher in an informal learning space", I say this to highlight the fundamental role that a librarian can and should have in the school. Consider the library as an informal space because this is a place to which only moving a percentage of students enrolled in school and, in most cases, this movement is voluntary.

However, this mobilization of students is very important because, every day, they are encouraged to meet a set of standards that allow for greater social integration in the present and in the future.

Students who attend the school library is not given an evaluation are included on the agendas and contributing to curriculum evaluation. The only assessment that is a subject of compliance with the minimum standards for good education.

The school library is the privileged stage for an acculturation of social values and a first contact with a library, which is able to integrate more easily into other libraries that will need on your journey of lifelong learning.

In addition to an awareness of social norms, our students seek school libraries as learning spaces and of leisure. It is up to us, librarians, and provides the means to remedy service’s needs, including providing support in achieving their school, in their research, the means available in free access and resources available on the Internet.

Since they are credible, all types of documents can and should be used, regardless of the medium in which they arise.

The Professional Science Documentation and Information, i.e the librarian, plays an intermediary role of information, as it has knowledge that allow you to filter and legitimize the same information, which will address the need for a specific user or set of users .

Thus, it is increasingly important role played by this kind of professionals because according to some scholars argue that we now live in a knowledge society. Knowledge is produced through easy access of information.

The society has become. And with it all changed, including the libraries, these were formerly, enclosed guarded by an old librarian tortoiseshell glasses and bun, or a male figure with similar austerity. Currently it is privileged spaces of conviviality and social inclusion.

I refer here to the libraries that exist physically in a given location, such as public libraries and schools, among others. There are libraries that are meant more for greater dissemination of information and less a physical aspect, this being the case of digital libraries, accessible from anywhere in the world. (In this article I will not dwell on this subject here is the theme released for a future post).

Taking up the theme of these school libraries, such as all others, have to adapt to the public they serve.

My professional experience focuses on students of the 3rd cycle of basic and secondary education, from the 7th to 12th grades. Are young adults or adolescents whose ages ranging roughly from 12 to 21 years old. These age groups have aroused less interest in projects initiated and studies developed, since these are particularly privileged children of the 1st cycle of basic education. But I have a feeling that this scenario may be changing.

In short, I return now the subject released the title of this article: the school librarian is a teacher in an area of informal education, in that it should do a follow up of works and studies developed by students at all levels of education, and thus holds an active role in the educational process of the school. However, in the current framework of public schools in Portugal, is not expected to category superior technical librarian, and only place the teacher coordinator of the library, which is not the same thing. Thus, libraries can be found in schools, librarians are not recognized since their formation and, therefore, are integrated in rows and administrative classes.
