No dia
11 de Maio, tive a oportunidade de visitar o Quartel do Carmo. Penso que nunca
lá tinha entrado e por isso esta foi uma ocasião única, porque fui a Lisboa
durante a abertura ao público deste quartel, que terminou ontem dia 12 de Maio.
Gostei
imenso, é sempre bom ver alguma coisa pela primeira vez, é enriquecedor poder
conhecer o nosso património. Naqueles corredores cruzam-se muitos momentos da
história de Portugal, porque ali permanecem as ossadas de Nuno Álvares Pereira,
o Condestável, as bandeiras portuguesas ao longo dos tempos, fotografias dos
comandantes da Guarda Nacional Republicana e por ter sido um importante palco
no desenrolar dos acontecimentos de 25 de Abril de 1974.
Parabéns
às pessoas que tiveram a iniciativa de abrir esta Quartel ao Público.
Notou-se
que foi visitado tanto por portugueses como por estrangeiros.
É de
louvar o facto de a visita ser gratuita, porque a cultura deve ser de todos.
Estar
na sala onde, em 25 de Abril de 1974, Marcelo Caetano entregou o poder aos
militares foi emocionante, sobretudo para a minha mãe que viveu esse momento da
nossa história.

On May 11, I had the opportunity to visit the Carmo Headquarters. I think there
had never entered and so this was a unique opportunity, because I went to Lisbon
for the opening to the public this quarter, which ended last May 12.
I really enjoyed, it is always nice to see something for the first time, and
it’s enriching to get to know our heritage. Those corridors intersect many times
in the history of Portugal, because there remain the bones of Nuno Álvares Pereira,
the Constable, the Portuguese flags over time, and photographs of the
commanders of the National Guard and was an important stage in the unfolding of
events of April 25, 1974.
Congratulations to the people who took the initiative to open this Public Barracks.
