Tomei conhecimento desta iniciativa no Linkedin através de um dos meus contactos que divulgou este assunto. e logo despertou a minha atenção. Considero-me uma pessoa interessada na difusão da informação, de conhecimentos e de livros e estou atenta às iniciativas que vão de encontro a esta forma de pensar.

Rick Brooks e Todd Bol vivem no estado de Wisconsin, nos EUA. Aos fins-de-semana reúnem-se para construir pequenas casas de madeira. Todas têm prateleiras internas e uma porta de vidro transparente para proteger o seu tesouro, colocado dentro após a conclusão: uma coleção de livros.

Free Little Library (Pequenas Bibliotecas Gratuitas) é um conceito semelhante ao bookcrossing, mas com a intenção de criar uma consciência de bairro e incentivar à leitura.

Construir mais de 2.510 bibliotecas em todo o mundo - mais do que Andrew Carnegie! (Para saberem quem foi Andrew Carnegie podem ler: http://andrewcarnegie.tripod.com/ )

Trata-se de pequenas casas, muito requintadamente decoradas e pintadas, contendo livros para quem os quiser levar, sem nenhuma obrigação, exceto a de devolver ou substituir o livro que levou por outro.

Brooks e Bol os dois pais desta iniciativa, aperceberam-se do potencial que tinha este sistema para que vizinhos se conhecem, partilhando os seus pontos de vista sobre as leituras.

O que começou como um projecto altruísta de duas pessoas tornou-se universal. Já mais de 40 estados dos EUA e 20 países que têm livre mini-bibliotecas e os nomes dos fundadores são diluídos entre um monte de voluntários.

Há cabines cheias de livros em lugares tão remotos como Accra (Gana), Pointe-Noire (Congo) ou Victoria (Austrália). Na Europa, ainda são escassos:  há uma na Inglaterra, duas na Alemanha e uma em  Itália, mas isso pode ser facilmente resolvido com um pouco de vontade.

Os membros da Free Library apresentam os planos, dicas e instruções para construir uma cabine mais resistentes a intempéries. Eles também dão a oportunidade de comprar uma pronta, mas os gastos desnecessariamente desencadeia uma ação para evitar o uso de dinheiro. Aqueles que decidirem começar podem se registar no site ou no grupo de Facebook da Free Little Library, postar fotos, comentar sobre a experiência e os problemas (ou alegrias) que surgem.

A primeira coisa que pode vir à mente é que esse plano é falível: os livros podem desaparecer novamente e novamente, as cabines estão sujeitas ao vandalismo... Mas o tempo veio a demonstrar que, que se a comunidade tomar cuidado, juntos, não tem de gastar nada sério.

Os membros da Pequenas Bibliotecas Gratuitas acreditam que "não se pode roubar um livro, se é livre" se houver parceiros activos e potenciais ladrão entra a dinâmica dos empréstimos, você vai perceber que não faz sentido subtrair nada. É um código de honra que está em curso. Quanto ao vandalismo, foram encontrados em todas as quatro bibliotecas danificadas por uma brincadeira, mas em todos os casos os vizinhos que viram os danos causados corrigiram-nos ao cuidar melhor delas. Os especialistas aconselham: "Colocar sempre a biblioteca num lugar visível (...). Ter várias pessoas a utilizar e a cuidar delas. Mantenha-a limpa e ocupada ".

Parece-me um projecto viável de implementar também em Portugal e especialmente aqui na cidade de Chaves pois à semelhança dos santuários que se encontram espalhados aqui pela cidade e também nas aldeias circundantes e que são mantidos pelas populações com bastante apreço pelo seu património. Tratar-se de envolver a comunidade em cuidar uma pequena infraestrutura que é delas e elas encarregam-se de fazer o resto.

Fica aqui registada esta ideia. E de que provavelmente será mais fácil implementar este género de infraestruturas em meios mais pequenos e mais difícil em meios urbanos.

I am became aware of this initiative in Linkedin through one of my contacts who disclosed this issue and immediately caught my attention. I consider myself a person interested in the dissemination of information, knowledge and books and I'm receptive to activities that go against this thinking.

Little Free Library (Free Small Libraries) is a concept similar to BookCrossing, but with the intention of creating a sense of neighborhood and encourage reading.

These are small houses, very tastefully decorated and painted, containing books for those who want to take, with no obligation except to return or replace the book that led the other.

Brooks and Bol both parents of this initiative, realized the potential that this system had to neighbors know each other, sharing their views on the readings.

What began as an altruistic project of two people became universal. Already more than 40 U.S. states and 20 countries that have free mini-libraries and the names of the founders are diluted among a lot of volunteers.

There are booths full of books in places as far as Accra (Ghana), Pointe-Noire (Congo) or Victoria (Australia). In Europe, are still scarce: there is in England, two in Germany and one in Italy, but this can be easily solved with a little ease.

Members of the Free Library have plans, tips and instructions to build a cabin more weather resistant. They also give the opportunity to buy one ready, but spending unnecessarily triggers an action to avoid the use of money. Those who decide to start may register on site or on the Facebook group Free Library Little, post photos, comment on the experience and the problems (or joys) that arise.

The first thing that may come to mind is that this plan is fallible: books can disappear again and again, the cabins are subject to vandalism ... But the time came to demonstrate that that the community take care together do not have to spend anything serious.

Members of the Free Small Libraries believe that "you can’t steal a book, one is free" if there are active partners and potential thief enters the dynamics of the loans, you will realize that it makes no sense to subtract anything. It is an honor code that is ongoing. As for vandalism, were found in all four libraries damaged by a joke, but in all cases the neighbors who saw the damage corrected us to take better care of them. Experts advise: "Always place the library in a visible place (...). Having multiple people to use and care for them. Keep it clean and busy."

It seems feasible to implement a project also in Portugal and especially here in Chaves as the similarity of the shrines that are scattered here and also in the city and surrounding villages that are held by people with great appreciation for their heritage. Treat yourself to involve the community in caring for a small infrastructure that is theirs and they take it upon themselves to do the rest.

Here is recorded the idea. And that's probably easier to implement this kind of infrastructure facilities in smaller and more difficult in urban areas.
